TitleCatcheside, David Guthrie: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDr. Catcheside has studied the cytology and genetics of Oenothera and other plants and of Drosophila. By studying meiosis in hybrids, he has homologised the chromosome segments in different Oenothera species and thus traced the history of speciation in this genus. He has made quantitative studies of the effects of X-rays on plant and animal chromosomes which lead to a fairly exact mathematical theory of the processes involved and a new interpretation of many of them. He is playing a leading part in developing the school of genetics and cytology in Cambridge.
