CitationDistinguished for his researches on (a) muscle biochemistry, (b) the study of the nature and properties of metalloprotein enzymes (peroxidase, phenoloxidases and carbonice anhydrase); (c) enzymic synthesis of acetylcholine in vitro; (d) carbohydrate and phosphorus metabolism of moulds, and (e) fundamental contributions to the knowledge of the biochemistry and physiology of mammalian seminal fluid. Discovered that the sugar constituent of seminal fluid is fructose (and not glucose as was generally believed) and demonstrated that the production of fructose is initiated and regulated by the male sex hormine.
