TitleNeuberger, Albert: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished as a biochemist, and particularly for his work on amino-acids. By electrometric studies he revealed new facts in the physico-chemical behaviour of amino-acids which he later applied to in the study of the structure of penicillin. He made a considerable contribution to the chemistry of glucosamine, and followed this with a series of papers on the biochemical effects of deficiency of essential amino-acids. Recently he has studied aromatic amino-acid metabolism in relation to alcaptonuria, and has done important work on the biosynthesis of porphyrins.
