TitleHall, Sir Arnold Alexander: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationHall was leader of the group at the Royal Aircraft Establishment 1941-5 responsible for the design of the gyroscopic gunsight for aircraft - one of the major contributions of science to the equipment of the R.A.F. It was primarily to his personal investigation of the operational & technical problems that its success was due. Earlier, he was in charge of the design of the large high speed wind tunnel at the R.A.E. The engineering problems involved were outside past experience. The outstanding success of this equipment of which the design of modern British aircraft would have been virtually impossible, is largely due to Hall's work (List of publications attached)
