DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his investigation into respiratory disturbances due to pulmonary embolism, congestion and toxic agents, having shown that pulmonary stretch fibres are not responsible. He has demonstrated the existence and some properties of afferent nerve endings from the heart and great veins and has discovered afferent fibres from the small blood vessels of the lungs. He has in collaboration demonstrated the relation of conduction rate to myelin thickness in nerve, and elucidated a mechanism producing headache and high blood pressure in paraplegics. He has demonstrated nerve-impulses from spindles of extraocular muscles and has traced some of their central connections.
