TitleHills, Edwin Sherbon: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationHas made important contributions to many branches of geology, especially Australian. Discovered Upper Devonian fishes in Victoria and later described all known Australian Devonian fishes and Tertiary fresh-water fishes. Described a complex of ring dykes, cauldron subsidences & dyke-swarms associated with the Devonian fish-beds. Descriptive and theoretical petrological work of importance has been done on these and other igneous rocks. His contributions to the physiography of Victoria have been summarized in his 1940 book. His structural studies have led to an important tectonic analysis of Australia and an account of its geochemical zoning.
