TitleHinton, Christopher, Baron Hinton of Bankside: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationSir Christopher Hinton has borne the main responsibility for the technical design of the large production plants in our Atomic Energy Project. Major decisions often had to be made by him before the ancillary research problems had been fully solves.
He had to judge to a nicety the novel hazards of plant dealing with enormous quantities of extremely toxic and radioactive material, and take steps to overcome them economically.
Several major and distinct factories and plants have now been built, and as one after the other comes into production, Hinton's magnificent powers of technical leadership, planning and design are being revealed.
