TitleRamsay, James Arthur: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his studies on the factors controlling the water balance in animals. His quantitative analysis of the effect of wind velocity, saturation deficiency and temperature on the rate of water loss from invertebrate and vertebrate animals is now classical. His work on the internal mechanisms of water regulation in a variety of invertebrates is characterised by the same high degree of originality in both experimental technique and theoretical analysis.
