TitleBrown, Robert: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his studies on germination of parasite seeds, which has led to isolation of formerly unrecognised metabolites excreted by roots. He has developed methods for isolation and counting of cells (and nuclei) from plant tissues and has undertaken important series of researches on development of enzymic and growth processes at developing meristems. These have already shown, inter alia, "catalytic" activity of xyloketose on growth and have led to studies of the continuous changing pattern of protein and amino acid composition of the gradually ageing meristem.
