One of the first to test systematically the validity of isotopic - spin selection rules. Inventor of several electronic and other devices useful in nuclear physics. Helped elucidate the discharge mechanism in Geiger counters. His studies of the photodisintegration of the deuteron heave led to more accurate knowledge of nuclear forces.
