TitleSquire, Herbert Brian: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationProfessor Squire has done distinguished theoretical and experimental work in a wide range of aerodynamic problems. These include investigations on stability of flow in the boundary layer and heat transfer through it, the profile drag of aerofoils, and the flow in and around circular jets in an air stream. He is responsible with A D Young for the standard method of estimating aerofoil profile drag, and is the author of the chapter on Heat Transfer in 'Modern Developments in Fluid Mechanics' 1938 and 'High Speed Flow' 1953. His work on the aerodynamics of helicopter rotors produced a method of estimating helicopter performance which has been widely used.
