Title | Abercrombie, Michael: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Certificate of Election |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to Embryology and especially for his discoveries in connection with the mechanism of determination in the development of the chick blastoderm and the processes of growth in tissue culture. He has made a close study of the multiplication of Schwann cells during degeneration & regeneration of nerves and the quantitative methods used for this led to a method for calculating the number of cells in a section, which has wide applications. His studies on the movement of groups of cells in tissue culture have led to new concepts of the mechanism of growth & morphogenesis. |
