TitleHenderson, David Willis Wilson: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationDistinguished for his contributions to microbiology and especially for his work on the pathogenesis of air-borne infections. His development of quantitative experimental techniques set a new standard for studies of infective aerosols. Investigations of air-borne infections with anthrax, plague, brucellosis and tuberculosis provided models for later work with viruses and for the study of combined infections in which synergism may be a significant factor. As Director of the Microbiological Research Establishment he has been chiefly responsible for its large output of co-ordinated researches of high quality. His earlier work made important contributions to our knowledge of anti-bacterial immunity in typhoid fever and in certain clostridal infections.
