TitleCook, William Richard Joseph: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationSir William Cook has shown outstanding ability in large technical projects. His judgement has often been an important factor in the formation of national policy in the technical sphere; and in several instances he has been given a leading executive command in the scientific work. His contributions to ballistics, particularly on rockets, are well known. The stimulus he gave to the Royal Naval Scientific Service during his four years as Chief is still felt. He made many contributions to the development of British nuclear weapons. Since 1959 he has been Member for Development and Engineering in the Atomic Energy Authority. His present responsibilities include the development of the Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor and the Fast Reactor.
