TitleBurbidge, Eleanor Margaret: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Candidate for Election to the Fellowship
CitationMrs Burbidge has made distinguished contributions to both the observations and theoretical development of the theory of the origin of the chemical elements. Her recent observational work on extragalactic nebulae was rated by the late Walter Baade as being technically at the very highest level. This work has profound cosmological implications, particularly in the evidence that it provides of the formation of new galaxies.
