CitationDistinguished for his contributions to hydraulic and hydro-electric engineering, and especially for his outstanding work as head of the Snowy Mountains Scheme. Had extensive experience with Armstrong-Whitworth, London; Public Works Department in New Zealand; Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners, London; and Metropolitan Water, Sewerage and Drainage Board, Sydney (Engineer-in-Chief). He was appointed to his present position in 1949, and is responsible for one of the largest civil engineering projects in the world. Awarded the Australasian Engineer Ward, for 1957, and the Kernot Medal, 1959.
