CitationDistinguished for his work on the endocrine systems of early vertebrates. He was the first to study the pancreatic and other secretions of the digestive system of a large range from Tunicates to Reptiles. Studied the distribution of iodine in the endostyle and other organs by autoradiography of I -125 and thus the evolution of the thyroid. Investigated the adenohypophysial control systems of clyclostomes and fishes and developed a basic set of concepts of the evolution of the hormonal system of vertebrates.
