Title | Haydon, Denis Arthur: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Haydon's early work was mainly concerned with various aspects of the physics and chemistry of the oil/water interface. In particular he made useful modifications to the theory of the electrical double layer, and investigated the adsorption of ions at the interface, and the relation between electrokinetic potential and surface charge density. Soon after the introduction of artificial phospholipid bilayers as models for living cell membranes, he turned his attention to a critical study of their behaviour, and has played a leading part in the important task of placing our knowledge of their properties on a sound physical basis. |
