TitleStoicheff, Boris Peter: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed. Letter attached to certificate.
CitationStoicheff's early work on high resolution Raman spectroscopy has contributed greatly to the knowledge of the geometric structures of non-polar molecules. In particular it helped to establish the dependence of C-C and C-H bond lengths on bond environment. More recently he has made fundamental contributions by the application of laser techniques to Raman spectroscopy, especially by the study of stimulated Raman and Brillouin scattering. His discovery of inverse Raman spectra is particularly noteworthy. He has also for the first time observed thermal shear waves in liquids by Brillouin scattering of laser radiation.
