CitationAllen's work has ranged widely in physical chemistry, including thermodynamics and a number of branches of spectroscopy. In recent years he has applied these various techniques especially in polymer science, and has become internationally known for his contributions. These cover many aspects of polymer science, and highlight the great versatility which is one of his outstanding characteristics. Trained originally as a chemist, he has worked in close collaboration with physicists, and most of his current researches would be classed as chemical physics.
