Title | Charnock, Henry: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 1973 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Professor Charnock has made significant contributions to both physical oceanography and marine meteorology. His careful observations at sea and in the field, followed by skilled interpretation, have led to important generalisations, notably about atmospheric turbulence and the drag of the wind on the sea. His work has done much to clarify the relation between boundary layer processes and the general circulation of the atmosphere and the ocean. He has been active in promoting co-operative and interdisciplinary work in the earth sciences. In 1971 he was elected President of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics and in 1973 awarded a Senior Queen's Fellowship by the Australian Government. |
