Date1973
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his work on structural mechanics especially in the context of thin-walled structures. He has done notable work on the buckling and vibration of isotropic and anisotropic thin structures under complicated load systems, while his work on boundary layer states of stress in non-linear plate and shell theory is of fundamental significance.
Notable also is his analysis of stresses in aircraft wings and fuselages, and his definitive work on the characteristics of cross-spring pivots and on stress wave propagation in helical springs.
