Date | 1978 |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to immunochemistry and immunopathology. He made early and important studies on anti-nuclear antibodies. He purified and characterized conglutinin and distinguished it from immuno-conglutinin. He is especially distinguished for his contributions to the study of complement. He was the first to demonstrate bound complement in tissue sections. He discovered C3b Inactivator and the C3b feedback cycle, and he elucidated (with Thompson) the mechanism of reactive lysis. He is a leading investigator on complement deficiency and polymorphisms and in the use of haemolytic diffusion plates in the assay of complement components. He was also one of the first to publish evidence for antigen-specific T cell factors. |
