TitleTutin, Thomas Gaskell: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1978
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationJoint author of the Flora of the British Isles (1952, 1962) and well known internationally for the outstanding part he has played in the inception and production of Flora Europaea, the fifth and final volume of which is now in press after more than twenty years of sustained effort. The successful completion of this important international undertaking owes more to Professor Tutin, as author and chairman throughout of the editorial committee, than to any other single contributor. The whole impressive corpus of his contributions to floras and to scientific journals reveal him as a taxonomic investigator of the highest competence and soundness of judgement. He has also taught and inspired a steady succession of productive research workers.
