TitleWaterlow, John Conrad: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1977
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationWaterlow has made important contributions to our knowledge of protein metabolism in man and experimental animals. By applying the method of continuous infusion of suitable amino acids, he has obtained reasonably reliable information of protein turnover in the whole organism, and in specific tissues. By his analysis in biochemical terms of manifestations in patients of protein-calorie deprivation, he has contributed significantly to our understanding of the problem of infantile malnutrition in tropical conditions.
Waterlow has also trained and influenced students from many countries. He is also giving advice to many official bodies, both nationally and internationally.
