CitationDr Marsham is distinguished for his sustained leadership in the development of civil nuclear power stations. After a period of nuclear physics research at Liverpool establishing (with Professor Holt) significant experimental physics of deuteron stripping reactions, Marsham moved to the UKAEA and as Reactor Manager, Calder Hall, was responsible for assembly, testing and commissioning and first operating the pioneer Calder Hall nuclear power station. In this work, he established the main testing and commissioning procedures for nuclear power plant, further developed when he next brought into operation the prototype Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor. He played a leading role in establishing the development work for and construction of the Prototype Fast Reactor, brought into operation in 1975. As Board member UKAEA, he has the lead responsibility for the AEA's programme on thermal reactors, and for the development of fast reactor technology in Britain.
