TitleWall, Patrick David: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1987
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationProfessor Wall has had a key role in four developments in somatic sensory mechanisms which have affected basic science and clinical therapy. He developed techniques to discover mechanisms of presynaptic control. His discoveries have contributed substantially to the physiology of the laminar organization, convergence and control of spinal cord dorsal horn cells. He showed physiological changes in injured sensory axons that produce plastic changes even in adult cord. Transported chemicals and nerve impulses were shown to trigger prolonged changes in central organization. Each of these four developments was initially doubted but they have now been confirmed by many other groups.
