TitlePillinger, Colin Trevor: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date1987
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationColin Pillinger has made major contributions to geochemistry and cosmochemistry through the development of high sensitivity techniques for stable isotope abundance determinations. Applied to meteorites these have allowed the discovery and characterization of interstellar dust and gas components, the investigation of martian geochemistry, and the identification of taxonomic features for the recognition of meteorite parent bodies. In terrestrial geochemistry his methods give new insight into deep mantle processes, including the reconstruction of events in the growth of diamond. He was responsible for elucidating chemical effects caused by solar wind bombardment of the lunar surface.
