TitleLilley, David Malcolm James: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationDavid Lilley is an authority on the structure and folding of branched nucleic acids. He has developed powerful methods for their study, especially FRET. Lilley's determination of the structure of the four-way DNA junction has had major impact in the understanding of recombination processes. He has made detailed study of enzymes exhibiting structure-selective recognition of DNA. Lilley has analysed folding of ribozymes and its role in catalysis. He is an authority on topology in DNA structure and function. Lilley has progressed understanding of the structure of tetraplex DNA, by producing the first NMR structure and a very high resolution crystal structure.
