TitleManolopoulos, David Eusthatios: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date19 May 2011
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationDavid Manolopoulos is a highly original theoretical chemist. His work on carbon clusters led to a classification of fullerene isomers and to experimentally-confirmed predictions of the structures and properties of higher fullerenes. His calculations in chemical reaction dynamics explained a number of important experimental results and led to an improved understanding of reactive transition states, the role of resonances in hydrogen atom transfer reactions, and the effect of long-range forces on chemical reactions. His recent work on condensed phase dynamics shows great promise for elucidating quantum mechanical effects in liquids and in proton transfer reactions in chemical and biochemical systems.
