DescriptionNine volumes of scientific letters and papers from various authors containing accounts, observations and theories covering a wide variety of subjects and disciplines. Sent to the Royal Society for discussion and possible publishing. Some items feature original artwork, figures and tables. The coverage of the volumes that make up decade 5 is as follows:

Volume 41: item numbers 1-26, read 14 January 1768 - 21 April 1768
Volume 42: item numbers 27-58, read 21 April 1768 - 22 December 1768
Volume 43: item numbers 59-111, read 12 January 1769 - 15 June 1769
Volume 44: item numbers 112-144, read 9 November 1769 - 21 December 1769
Volume 45: item numbers 145-180, read 18 January 1770 - 21 May 1770
Volume 46 and 47 (bound together): item numbers 181-232, read 24 May 1770 - 18 April 1771
Volume 48: item numbers 233-265, read 2 May 1771 - 19 December 1771
Volume 49: item numbers 266-292, read 9 January 1772 - 2 April 1772
Volume 50: item numbers 291-330, read 2 April 1772 - 24 December 1772

The dates given correspond to the date that the papers were written/sent by the author. The read date in the description indicates when papers were read at a Royal Society meeting.

Each volume contains a list of contents which provides: a document reference number, author, title, extent, date of reading to the Society and place of publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions' as far as could be determined for each item.
