DescriptionEight volumes of scientific letters and papers from various authors containing accounts, observations and theories covering a wide variety of subjects and disciplines. Sent to the Royal Society for discussion and possible publishing. Some items feature original artwork, figures and tables. The coverage of the volumes that make up decade 8 is as follows:

Volume 71 & 72: item numbers 1-35, read 7 November 1782 - 10 July 1783
Volume 73: item numbers 36-60, read 6 November 1783 - 4 March 1784
Volume 74: item numbers 61-85, read 4 March 1784 - 27 May 1784
Volume 75: item numbers 86-100a, read 27 May 1784 - 1 July 1784
Volume 76: item numbers 101-122, read 4 November 1784 - 20 January 1785
Volume 77 & 78: item numbers 123-144, read 27 January 1785 - 7 April 1785 & 14 April 1785 - 16 June 1785
Volume 79: item numbers 154-179, read 17 November 1785 - 16 March 1786
Volume 80: item numbers 180-192, read 23 March 1786 - 15 June 1786

The dates given correspond to the date that the papers were written/sent by the author. The read date in the description indicates when papers were read at a Royal Society meeting.

Each volume contains a list of contents which provides: a document reference number, author, title, extent, date of reading to the Society and place of publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions' as far as could be determined for each item.
