Description | Monthly meteorological data sheets, February-November 1841, in two parts: form 1 containing uncorrected meteorological observations, form 2 corrected meteorological results.
Form 1, main table, contains columns of information on: date and Moon; barometer; temperature and dew point; wet bulb thermometer; temperature minimum and maximium, with solar radiation data; temperature of sea or running water; wind direction and gauge; rainfall; electricity; general weather remmarks; latutude and longitude at noon; with a repeated date and Moon column. A secondary table, below, is for uncorrected and corrected hourly observations of the barometer and thermometer on the 21st day of the month.
Form 2, main table, contains columns of information on: date and Moon; pressure of atmosphere; elasticity of vapour; and temperature maximum, minimum and mean). A second set of tables, below, presents monthly temperature and pressure in graphical form.
Sheet 6, verso, has a manuscript table headed: 'Term Day, hourly Observ.on Devil's Berg' [presumably Devil's Peak, Cape Town]. This contains data from 6am to midnight on day 1, 1.00am to 5.00am on a second day. Readings from thermometers, barometer, dry and wet thermometers, corrected and reduced barometer to standard, hygrometer and general weather observations. With a note stating 'Mountain Barom: No.46.'
Completed by Lieutenant F.M. Eardley-Wilmot, Royal Artillery, Cape of Good Hope Magnetic Observatory, with his signature on most sheets.
