| Description | Tables of meteorological observations, with an introduction, kept by James Horsburgh as commander of the ship 'Anna', owned by Bruce, Fawcett and Company of Bombay [Mumbai]. The records were kept during the course of a voyage from England to India, and subsequently on board, and at landfalls, on the coasts of India, China and Indonesia.
A version of this material was published as: 'Abstract of observations on a diurnal variation of the barometer between the Tropics', by James Horsburgh Esq., in a letter to Henry Cavendish Esq., F.R.S.', Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, v.95 (1805) pp.177-185. In a postscript to the paper, Horsburgh stated: 'Since I wrote the foregoing abstract, I have received a letter from my friend Mr. Dalrymple, intimating that a copy of the meteorological journal itself would be acceptable, which has induced me to transmit to him the original sheets, with a request to deliver them to you. I regret I could not find leisure time to make out a fair copy, to have sent to you, in place of the original sheets in their rough state'.
Stamped [p.1] 'Soc. Reg. Lond.' and inscribed in ink 'Presented by Alexr. Dalrymple Esqr. F.R.S. May 16 1805'. An inscription on the front inner board: 'New Catalogue no.55'. |
