Description | Daily observations, usually two or three readings each day at various times, and from four different locations. The volume begins in January 1725 with records from Lund [by Conrad Quensel], Uppsala [by Eric Burman] and Bygdea [by Jacob Burman]; material from Bettna [by Andreas Geringius] is added from April 1725. Columns for each location are presented together, on the observing days: with entries for dates and times, barometric pressure, temperature, wind direction and strength, and general weather notes ['Temperies aeris' or 'Constitutio aeris', air temperature or condition of the sky]. Observations from Bygdea are limited to brief statements on weather and wind.
These tables are noted as having been read at the Royal Society, ‘An abstract of the meteorological diaries, communicated to the Royal Society; with remarks upon them…part III’, by William Derham, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, v.38 (1734), pp.334-344. Observations in response to James Jurin's appeal for information in the paper: 'Invitatio ad observationes meteorologicas communi consilio instituendas', Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, v.32 (1723), pp.422-427.
Commencing [p.1] with the heading: 'Observationes Meteorologicae e Svethia pro Anno 1725 Stylo Juliano' [Meteorological observations from Sweden for the Year 1725 Julian style]. The opening page lists the observers and locations, with comments. Concluding with additional notes [pp.50-51]. Inscribed on the front cover: 'Upsala (and other Swedish towns 1725' and with an indistinct contemporary inscription: 'Swedish Obser. Aet. 1725'. |
