| Description | Tables of daily meteorological observations taken at sunrise, noon, sunset and midnight on board the survey cutter HMS Blonde, during sailing off the coast of West Africa and the Canary Islands. With columns for the date, place of observation, wind direction and force, temperature of the sea, temperature of the air, maximum and minimum of Six's thermometer, and remarks and notes on phenomena. There are sketches of waterspouts [pp.10-11]. The observations are brought to a close on 21 January 1837 [p.29] with the note: 'On this day the only Thermometer in the vessel was broken'.
The observations commence on 13 January 1836 off Tenerife, Canary Islands [p.5], with the vessel arriving at Sierre Leone by 31 January, travelling southward down the coast of West Africa. On 16 February it reached Cape Mesurada, Liberia, and Accra, Ghana, on 29 February [p.7]. On 4 March 1836, HMS Raven was off the Benin River, Nigeria, arriving off Fernando Po [Bioko, Equitorial Guinea] on 12 March and Corisco on 31 March [p.9]. It remained at Corsico before setting sail for the Gabon and Bimbia rivers and environs [p.11], returning to Fernado Po by 4 May [p.13]. There is a return leg to Sierra Leone on 7 June [p.15], after which the ship made for Tenerife, arriving 7 August [p.19], visiting the islands of La Gomera 1-12 October and La Palma 14-29 October [p.23]. Following a brief return to Tenerife, the ship sailed back to the West African coast, off Sierra Leone by 19 November [p.25], spending time at the Shoals of St Ann [p.27] and ending near Liberia [p.29].
