Commencing with a title page [p.3]: 'Book No.2. Magnetical Experiments. Made at Various Stations Visited during the Voyages of His Majesty's Surveying Sloop Chanticleer in the Years 1828, 29, and 30. Under the direction of Comr. Henry Foster FRS &cc. by G. Williams Mate and Lieut. R. Collinson Midshipman A. Hodgskin Midshipman J.H. Kay Midshipman. Meteorological Register Kept at Ascension, Fernando Noronha and Maranham by G. Williams, Actg. Lieutt. R. Collinson Midn. The work copied by Mr. Meridith Clerk'.

The final page [p.184] is signed 'Horatio T. Austin, Commander'. Horatio Thomas Austin (1800-1865), took command of H.M.S. Chanticleer, following the accidental drowning of Captain Henry Foster, in 1831.
