Title | Letter from [William Henry Mahoney] Christie, Royal Observatory, Greenwich, to John Evans, Treasurer of the Royal Society |
Creator | Christie; William Henry Mahoney (1845-1922); British astronomer |
Date | 18 May 1887 |
Description | Applies for a grant of £30 from the Donation Fund, 'for adaption of instruments to observe the total solar eclipse of August 19 and for freight of these instruments to Russia and back'. Mr [Herbert Hall] Turner intends to travel to Russia at his own expense and observe the eclipse and proposes to use instruments from last years eclipse expedition. Refers to the expense needed for this. Turner was unable to make an application for a sum from the government grant, therefore Christie would like to apply to the President and Council for a grant from the Donation Fund.
