DescriptionRegarding the proposal to complete the recently deceased Captain [Charles Morgan] Elliot's magnetic survey work at Indian observatories and the idea to send Hermann and Adolph Schlagintweit to India for an exploration of the Himalaya. Melvill states the Court of Directors' orders for the continuation of Elliot's work and approval of the Schlagintweit proposal. One of the Schlagintweit brothers could also be asked to take up duties regarding the completion of Elliot's work.
