DescriptionRegarding the Marquis' letter and that of Sir John Herschel regarding the proposed extension of magnetic enquiries to the East Indies. The court of directors at the East India Company order the astronomer at Madras [Chennai] to carry on such enquiries. Jenkins and Bayley enclose a list of instruments needed for magnetic and tidal observations in India.
