Discusses the matter of international cooperation in science, explaining the Royal Society's plan to revive and extend the existing International Unions, their National Committee's actions in reviewing policy and renewing contacts with scientists in liberated European countries, and visits by Tizard and Professor Hill to European countries. Refers to the historic lack of action of the International Council in charge of the unions, and the aim of Professor F J M Stratton, General Secretary of the Council and Unions, to arrange a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Council, alongside the need for a new President to be elected. Also mentions an October meeting at the Society to discuss the place of science in the new United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNECO), with a strong belief expressed by many that science should be expressly included to make it the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with Tizard's explanation of the dissenting voices, and his request for Cannon's view on the matter.
Sympathy is expressed for Tizard's illness and Professor Field's accident. |
