TitleCopy letter from Sir Henry Thomas Tizard, to William Horace Montagu-Pollock [Foreign Office]
Date8 August 1945
DescriptionRequest for advice in responding to a letter from Professor Maria Skalinska of the Association of Polish University Professors and Lecturers in Great Britain about Polish scientists amongst persons liberated from German concentration and prisoner of war camps, and that Mr Butler made encouraging remarks at the last meeting of the Conference of Allied Ministers of Education about the welcome such individuals would receive from British Universities. In contrast to this Skalinska mentioned to Tizard the difficulty in obtaining exit permits, with the result that most of the scientists remain in the camps.

A requested copy of the Polish scientists from Skalinska is enclosed with the letter, and Tizard asks if there is any fundamental difficulty in securing exit permits for the Polish scientists named. The letter is annotated in pencil on the top left to state that Montagu-Pollock had been reminded and he will investigate further.
