Description | Notes receipt of a letter of 8 August from Tizard on the subjects of visits from representatives of the British National Committees to European countries to discuss revival of international cooperation in science.
Announces his election to succeed Sir Arthur Eddington as President of the International Astronomical Union, which may require visits to European countries in the near future. Professor Oort of Leiden, General Secretary of the Union and Professor Minnaert of Utrecht are due to pay a visit to England to discuss matters. Jones hopes to soon arrange a preliminary planning and organisation meeting, possibly in Copenhagen, and the Russian astronomers have already expressed an interest in being represented at the proposed meeting. |
