Includes discussion of: the examination of the Society's early printed books with a view to their sale; the deferment of a decision by Council by July 1923; which of the available books the British Museum would be interested in having, with Pollard suggesting that beyond the four volumes they want, they might keep a selection large enough to provide a representative record of the Society's section of the Arundel Collection; the custodial history of the Arundel Collection and the Duke of Norfolk's view on the proposed sale of books to create a fund for the library; the decision that, with the exeption of the four books going to the British Museum, that the remainder are to be sold at auction; the dispatch of an Arundel Collection catalogue to Professor Archibald Byron Macallum; the timing of the sale, with Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge referring to the success of the Christie-Miller sale in 1924 to indicate how good the market for rare books is; the decision of the Council in December 1924 to proceed with the sale of books not of scientific interest, and some other books including Oriental manuscripts, and arrangements for Southeby, Wilkinson & Hodge to appraise the material. |
