TitleLetter from Henry Clifton Sorby, Broomfield, Sheffield, to Alfred Bray Kempe, Treasurer, Royal Society
Date14 November 1904
DescriptionHe does not know whether Dr. Hicks led Kempe to fully understand that he did not intend to establish the Fellowship now, but under his will, which he must revise for many reasons. Considering how many investments are doing badly, he could not spare over £500 per year. It seems premature to ask Council to accept a Trust but he was anxious to know whether such a scheme would meet with approval, as it did in the time of Sir George Gabriel Stokes. From Kempe's letter and the President's, he assumes that it will. There has been delay so he is anxious to proceed, but he wishes to ensure that Kempe understands that this is not any final or irreversable arrangement.
