Administrative historyThis note carries the 'Clayton MSS' stamp which was added to many of the Clayton/Morris papers before they were dispersed in 1929. The hand of the note resembles examples of the hand of Evelyn, and the line with circles under the signature can also be found, but the signature on this note is quite unlike the formal signature used by Evelyn (see BL Add MSS 4293, f. 70, 71). However the signature on this note, in a more informal context, can be found on a draft reply by Evelyn to a letter, March 1667/8, in BL Add MS 78317, ff. 70b)
