|Description||On restoring to the Icelanders the whole of their ships and cargoes. Such a measure will make a deep impression on the inhabitants and render easy the cession of the island to the British Crown and it will also help prevent famine in Iceland.|
At this time, Iceland was ruled by Denmark - an ally of France in the Napoleonic Wars. Banks was involved in attempts to improve trade between Iceland and the United Kingdom.
