| Description | On the possible re-routing of the voyage of HMS 'Seahorse' to observe the Transit of Venus in 1761.
Mason, writing from Plymouth, suggests that "...if we go to Scanderoon in the Levant we have a chance to see the first Internal contact according to computations from your corrections of the Motion of Venus...I hope the Society will order us to this place or the Eastern part of the Black Sea which will answer beyond those of the French in Siberia".
Mason also notes the misfortune which has befallen the voyage and the sea sickness which has affected him in an "unusual manner". |
