DescriptionSome brief remarks on birds caught on Kerguelen, such as the Albatross and a species of duck.

McCormick was surgeon on HMS Erebus, which along with HMS Terror, took part in Captain James Clerk Ross's Antarctic Expeditions, 1839-1843, whose primary mission was to study terrestrial magnetism and locate the South Magnetic Pole, as well as to undertake oceanographic, botanical, and zoological observations. For two months in 1840 the Erebus and Terror stayed at Kerguelen. MM/10/182-186 all date from this period.

With note attached: "Three papers from the Antarctic Expedition, viz On the Birds of Kerguelen, Catalogue of Birds and Description of Plants from Kerguelen's Land. Ordered to be deposited in the Iron Chest of the [Royal] Society 24 June 1848".
