DescriptionThe majority of the letters in this volume (MM/50-130) are unrelated items received by Walter White, Herbert Rix and Robert Harrison, in the course of their duties as Assistant Secretaries to the Royal Society in the late Nineteenth Century. This volume also includes letters sent to John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh, Arthur W Rucker and Michael Foster, during their terms of office as Secretaries of the Royal Society.

Topics covered in those letters include: offers to the Royal Society of paintings and manuscripts for sale, submission of papers to the Society for possible publication in the Society's Journals and the payment of Fellowship subscriptions.

Nos 1 to 2 Letters from George Gabriel Stokes to HE Roscoe, 1892. On replicating Isaac Newton's experiments with prisms.

Nos 3 to 13 Papers on meteorology, particularly the creation of the Meteorological Office in the UK. 1854-1863.

Nos 14 to 18 Correspondence on research by CM Ingleby and Cecil J Monro on papers held by the Royal Society relating to the Newton-Leibniz controversy, 1880.

Nos 50 to 69 Karl Pearson on the publication of his papers in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London'.
